Lima Bean Faire Dates Announced -buy your tickets online today!
We are gearing up for another Lima Bean Battle with our Second Annual Lima Bean Faire to be held September 24 through 26, 2010...a real Lima Bean weekend!
Why Lima Beans?
Because, early days in the coastal areas it was fields of lima beans, before they morphed into flower fields. Since then, Lima Beans have fallen from family favorite to the Charlie Brown of vegetables. But that is all about to change. The first Lima Bean Cook-Off challenge last year proved there were at least 22 delicious and unique ways to serve lima beans. This year there will be many more Limalicious offerings that will demonstrate this versatile bean is a perfect ingredient in a slew of tasty dishes.
Hence, the Lima Bean Cook-Off Challenge, which features amateur cooks, service clubs and fire departments - all vying for the coveted Lima Bean Trophies. A new category this year is Professional Chefs & Restaurants who will compete for prizes and honors.
Last year's entries were as varied as imaginable - from lima beans with oxtails to lima bean cookies. Categories this year include appetizers, soups, salads, main courses and desserts. All entries must contain dried white lima beans as part of the recipe.
But that's not all! The entire weekend is chock-full of unique and fun events for adults and children. Here are all the doings and ticket prices for the fun-filled weekend:

The 22nd Annual BBQ was held at the museum on May 15th.
This event has always been clebrated as a California tradition and Brett's BBQ cooked up a traditional "Santa Maria" menu for the occasion. The delicious tri-tip and chicken meal was followed by crowd pleasing entertainment by the band, Two of Us plus ONE. The band thrilled everyone wioth a special tribute to Willie Nelson.
The museum's Model T and stagecoach were on display and we also had a Tesla. Encinitas Foreign & Domestic Auto Repair brought their Corvair Pickup. The museum's Del Mar fire engine, fresh from a makeover, was on display next to a new engine from the Encinitas Fire Department.
Children enjoyed pumping water at the old water pump, roping a goat, playing with finger skateboards and having their faces painted. Many enjoyed bidding on all of the wonderful baskets at the silent auction and taking home goodies from the bake sale.
The theme of the event was "Doing business the Old Fashioned Way" and the museum had an exhibit thanking event sponsors and local businesses that have assisted the museum over the past 22 years. Funding to sponsor the BBQ event was provided by the County Board of Supervisors at the recommendation of Supervisor, Pam Slater Price. Several other businesses supported the event with sponsorships too. Click here to see all the event's sponsors.
