This building was originally a granny shack built in 1917 by John Teten as a place for his mother to live when he got married. It has been adapted to represent a General Store of the type that was common in the back country between the 1880s and 1920s. The introduction of automobiles contributed to the decline of general stores in the back country after the 1920s. The General Store contains the meat case from Millers Brothers store on Highway 101 in Encinitas, the Olivenhain Town Hall table, a hand-crank telephone and an assortment of items commonly sold in General Stores.
The adjacent building is an bunk house from the Depression years that was originally on the Ecke Ranch. It would have housed up to four laborers who worked in the flower fields. It had no running water or inside toilet.
