GROUP TOURS
The San Dieguito Heritage Museum welcomes groups to tour the Museum exhibits. Indoor and outdoor exhibits are included on the tour, interpreting San Dieguito history from the Native American period to modern day suburban life. Groups are requested to make a reservation to ensure that an appropriate number of docents are available to guide the group on an interpretive tour, and to assure your specific time’s availability. Tours may be scheduled during the hours the Museum is open. (By calling the Museum, you may also be able to make special arrangements for a tour when the Museum is not open). The fee is $20.00 per adult or $10.00 for senior citizens. The maximum number of tour participants is 30. There is ample parking for cars, vans and busses.
SCHOOL FIELD TRIPS
The Field Trip Program is a social studies lesson designed to provide a “hands on” experience for students to learn about local history. The program is targeted to third graders and covers several standards identified in the California third grade curriculum. However, it may also be appropriate for 1st grade and 4th and 5th grade students.
The field trip is divided into 3 segments. It will include a tour of the San Dieguito Heritage Museum. Students will be led by a guide through exhibits interpreting the history of the Native American, Rancho, Pioneer and Twentieth Century periods of change in the San Dieguito communities. Students will also tour an outside Native American grass hut and grinding stone exhibit. A Native American storytelling and a sand painting activity will be conducted in this exhibit. Students will also participate in early settler activities. Pioneer skills taught will be butter making and barter.
Teachers must register with the Museum to book a field trip visit.
The cost for the program is $8.00 per student (children under 6 free) and is limited to 30 students. A deposit of $20 is required at the time a reservation is made. The field trips are offered on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings during the school year, from 9:30am to 11:30am.
